performing artist, teacher, community arts advocate
Based in Athens, Ga Lisa Yaconelli is committed to creating thoughtful and personal dance works. In the last five years her work has been presented in Small Box Series, a multi arts and artist show she produces that includes dance, music, poetry, storytelling, and theater all performed on a 4x4 box. Since moving to Athens in 2001, she has also presented work as part of Warehouse Collective and Underground Dance Society. In 2016 she started teaching Making Dances at Center City Ballet and Movement Arts and found that children who didn't quite fit into a dance class but loved to dance needed a place to continue learning dance. Making Dances became that place. Making Dances grew in its new home at Nimbl, a business she cofounded with Laura Hoffman and Maryn Whitmore. In 2021, after Nimbl closed, she created work.shop, a space dedicated to supporting performing artists and creators who need a place to practice, experiment, share, collaborate, and make. With affordable rental rates, work.shop will be a place where dance, theater, film, music, and other experimental performing arts can be created and shared.
